Ever growing in popularity, juicing—that is, extracting juice from fruits and veggies—is an easy and delicious way to consume healthy amounts of fresh produce.

A range of juices, from sweet to nutrient-dense green power juices to custom-blended creations, are offered at sibling restaurants MAINE SQUEEZE (in Portland and Kittery) and THE JUICERY (in Portsmouth, soon in Durham, and Boston). “We combine nature’s finest fruits and veggies to create combinations that are delicious and vibrant and that fuel your body with plant-powered energy to keep you feeling great throughout the day,” says owner Alex Vandermark. A popular offering at both is Good Morning Juice, with cucumber, apples, and lemon. Beyond juice, they serve smoothies and vegan wraps and salads, created under the direction of Executive Chef Stacey Hamblett, who has been cooking vegetarian cuisine for more than 20 years.

Portsmouth’s THE FRESH PRESS uses only organic ingredients to create fresh juices, such as the Cayenne Kick starter with carrots, apples, lemon, ginger, and cayenne; the mostly meatless menu also includes bowls, wraps, and salads.

In Dover, ROOTS JUICE BAR promises to be “always 100- percent vegan” and to use as many local and organic ingredients as possible (just ask to see their list of farms). The menu includes breakfast, salads, wraps, smoothies, and, of course, juices like Glow, with carrots, beets, oranges, and pineapple. They make many of their items from scratch, including hummus, dressings, soups, and vegan milks, like almond and coconut.

At MANDARAVA JUICE BAR & ORGANIC KITCHEN in Newburyport, organic fruits and veggies are transformed in their kosher kitchen into healthy drinks like Kale Pineapple Pear Lemon Juice. They’re open most days for lunch and some nights for dinner, with menus that change daily to showcase the best of what’s in season.
