Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice

Food Finds by Jessica Sacco / December, 2016

A glass of wine often isn’t complete without some type of accompaniment, and for those looking for an easy pairing of beverage and food, Wine Sticks are your new best friend.

Jane Jaharian created a series of biscotti-like cookies to complement red or white wine by using not only the classic baking ingredients, but alcohol as well. “We wanted to make entertaining easy,” says Jaharian. “This way, you can open a bottle of wine, a jar of wine sticks, and maybe a wedge of cheese, and you’ve got your gathering and everything ready.

”Start with the Lemon A’Peel to cleanse your palate. If you’re in the mood for red, go for the Chocolate, which blends chocolate, red wine, and a dash of cinnamon to go with shiraz, merlot, or pinot noir. If you’re drinking white, Apple uses homemade applesauce, cinnamon, and white wine, so grab a few of these when you’re sitting down with a Riesling, pinot grigio, or chardonnay. The Carolina Red merges vodka with spices, and is great with sweet white wines, or for those times when a bloody Mary is on your agenda. Open a jar of the Cinnamon Espresso, with its hints of coffee, spice and pecans to pair with rum, merlot, or (spiked) coffee or tea.
