Martingale Wharf

At the end of last summer, Martingale Wharf expanded our waterview dining options in Portsmouth. The restaurant and building are brand new, but the address has a history. Previous incarnations included a brothel and a rooming house. But the current establishment is most definitely an eatery, centered around a 360° bar. It is all about great views. Creative cocktails are both whimsical (White Gummy Bear, a blend of raspberry vodka, peach schnapps, orange liqueur, and housemade sour mix) and sophisticated (Classic Old Fashioned).

The deck is open when the weather is warm, and there’s a deck and bar menu, with items like Pretzel Crusted Calamari and French Fries with assorted toppings, including foie gras. Entrees are more casual here, like Grown Up Fish Sticks (made with red snapper) and Grilled Steak and Cheese. Creative sounding salads include Roasted Root Vegetable and Duck and Bacalao, with salt cod, Brussels sprouts, and cider glazed squash.

The Dining Room has similar apps and salads, with more sophisticated (and expensive) entrees, like Pomegranate Glazed Swordfish and All Natural Grilled Black Angus Filet. Desserts look worth saving room for, including homemade ice cream and hot fudge sauce, as well as seasonal sweet tastings.

Live music is offered Thursdays and Fridays.
