With its lakeside-lodge decor, crackling fireplaces, private beach, and walking-distance location to downtown Wolfeboro’s quaint shops, Wolfeboro Inn might just be the perfect Winnipesaukee escape. “You’re surrounded by Belknap Mountain, the tall trees, and Wolfeboro Bay in the distance,” says Lucy Van Cleve, director of sales and marketing at the inn. “It captures the essence of a New England escape.”

The inn is open year round and is home to Wolfe’s Tavern, which Van Cleve calls “a great and popular local hangout” that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Wolfe’s Tavern’s “classic New England cuisine with a contemporary flair” shines with entrees such as Short Rib Shepherd’s Pie and desserts like Upside-down Peach Blackberry Gingerbread. Local beers are also on the menu.

Relaxation and romance is in ample supply at the inn, which offers among its packages a massage package, which includes overnight accommodations, a bottle of wine, two one-hour in-room Swedish massages, and a room service breakfast for two. The Wolfeboro Inn also has a boat, the 65-foot Winnipesaukee Belle, which not only offers public tours of the vast lake, but private charters as well.

The Wolfeboro Inn was completely remodeled in 2009, and guests rave about the beds: Van Cleve says she constantly hears guests commenting about the wonderful night’s sleep they had on the comfy beds, sheets, and pillows. A nightly turndown service that comes with a bathrobe, a pair of slippers, and leaving out the TV remote, completes the sweet-dreams experience.

As Van Cleve says, “The Wolfeboro Inn likes to delight and surprise our guests.”
